Assignment 5: Wedding Card Draft

Here is my first 2 drafts of the love theme assignment. I had decided to create wedding invitation card for my good friend, Qq. Her wedding is in July thus it is confirm the actual design will get to print out :) I had chosen 2 different looks with each unqiue colour scheme.

Comments On Design 1

The colour scheme is good and very soft. The overall feel gives a very comfortable and serene look.

Comments on Design 2

Image might not look good. However the whole colour scheme gives a very classic looking card. The line theme gives a very nice finishing.

My thoughts that I may combined the 2 concepts together. The colour scheme will be using Design 2 but with a softer tone like Design 1. Image will be taken off and will use other kind of simple graphics.

Alfred suggest that i can do a more different kind of direction of love card. I thought about it and to my surprise I saw a "break up" Card. Kind of unexpected. Fresh but I still very much prefer Love in a positive direction. So sorry, no fresh idea from me :) I am quite happy and contented to further improve on the wedding invitation card.

Inspiration: The Strait Times - "Mind Your Body" dated 12th March 2008 "Pain Relief" an article on Teens angst turning to self-mutilation as a form of outlet to release their pain.

The message is to all youths to stop abusing yourself but love yourself.

Assignment 3: U C what I C - Drafts

What is this assignment all about?

Visual narrative – Telling a story with just 10 pictures

Objectives:
Understanding and overcoming constrains/ problems of representation
Using various representation techniques to communicate your ideas effectively

Important: Story should

Aristotle’s Poetic
Have a plot
A beginning (hooking the audience)
Middle (drama, building tempo)
An ending (with a twist – requirement for this assignment)

My twist.... took me a long time to think. I had explored by doing research on the internet on short stories with a twist. Most were quite difficult to implement and plus this was a visual story with no words involved! Sit back and let me know if you were expecting that. :P

Process: Place camera on the tripod and set to 10 seconds mode. Took the girl in red shirt 10 frames. Girl in black dress took 6 frames. Using photoshop merge the 2 girls together to form this story.

Do give me your comments how I can improve the story and the twist. Let me know if you don't understand what's going on!

Assignment 2: Representational Techniques Finalized

Hello!

I had finally choose HTC Touch Phone to work with and more levels to work on as well.

Here is my final output :)

I have chosen this object as it has more details that I can work on. The previous object scissors was too terrible and was very hard to work with. I am glad that the final output still look and resembled of the original image. Please give me your thoughts :)

Assignment 2: Representational Techniques Draft

What is this assignment all about?

Procedure:

Subject: Select an object or activity or location (telephone, running, Bus stop, car, cooking etc). Try not to select an existing subject (eg. Toilet or well known sports symbols)

Create a representative image of the object (you may choose either iconic or indexic representation)

Distill the image through process of abstraction. (at least 5 levels of abstraction from realistic to abstract)

Indicate at what point in the abstraction process the object looses its specific identity and communicates generic meaning. Select that image and develop it into a symbol.

Here is my first sketch of the scissors.

I think I had chose a very simple object and found it great difficulty in doing the final abstraction as the scissors did not have a lot of details in the first place.

Most comments given was the level 5 looks like 2 big pin heads and still look like the same object as before.

Very likely, I will choose a more complicated looking scissors and work on the abstraction.
